Bluewaters Power has progressed substantially following the deregulation of the Western Australian energy sector in 1997. The Government’s reforms opened the energy market to private enterprise, creating an opportunity for private investors to participate in the energy sector.
1997 – Deregulation of the WA energy sector.
2000 – Commenced planning the Bluewaters Power Station as a stand alone generating facility owned entirely by Bluewaters Power.
2006 – Western Power restructured into four separate corporations.
2006 – Construction commenced on Bluewaters Power Station phase 1.
2007 – Construction commenced on Bluewaters Power Station phase 2.
2009 – Bluewaters Power Station phase 1 commercial operations commence.
2009 – Bluewaters Power Station phase 2 commercial operations commence.
2009 – Community consultation commenced for the Bluewaters Power Station Expansion Project.
2010 – WA Government Ministerial approval received for the Bluewaters Power Station Expansion Project.
2013 – Bluewaters Power purchased by Sumitomo Corporation & Kansai Electric Power Co. Ltd.
